I am going to try and keep you guys updated on our efforts on this thread.

Some of this is dated info, but will give you some insight into what we are about.

For kicks, if anybody is interested in getting my emails about our kids needs personally just post it here or send me an email.

For the last month I have been pretty distracted starting a non-profit to help support the foster kids, parents and DFCS staff in our county. It has been hard to focus on stone and we have been busy and the phone keeps ringing.

I told a guy we know that it would be 3 or 4 weeks before I could template his investment property and he would probably be better off using his buddy from FL who is cheaper anyway. He said he would just wait. I was like, OK

I really need to find a partner to handle temp/fab/install and I can just sell and focus on FF (Fostering Families is the name of the non profit). Working on a possible alternative, we’ll see.

BUT, in keeping with my redneck roots, I have my first CLarinet Repair.!!!

Word got to us that there was a little girl that wanted to be in the band. She is in a small group home and the budgets there are very fixed. The Momma of the home is willing to transport ets… to and from extracurriculars, but can’t afford all the gear. I sent an email to 10 people on our big list and got 2 offers for CLarinets for the little girl. One came from OMAG Jerry if you can beleive that 8-) . Not sure why I put him on the short list, just kinda let God lead me to who to click on. Turns out he has one in a storage facility somewhere :) .

If anyone wants to be added to our email list , just for kicks, let me know.

So, We get the Clarinet offered from a local source and it needs some cork replaced. I get a quote to fix it and it could be $20 to $60 bucks. We have exactly $1.00(US) in the bank at the moment. They made me put something in to open the account.

So, off to Hobby Lobby to buy cork and contact cement.

Thats awsome! feel free to add my personal email to the list gshell661@yahoo.com, if something comes up that we may be able to help on we will do our best.

My wife and I do not have children, we have tried but I think a 20 years of MMA and Karate has taken a toll on my body, we are always looking to help. We have looked into adoption but it takes about a 30k investment, kind of nuts seeing there are so many kids in need but thats the cost. We have cosidered fostering but you always have that underlying fear that after so much time with a child they will be taken away, don’t think we could bear that pain, adoption would be our only option at this point in our lives.

I admire you for your efforts, keep up the great work.

    Thanks

Give Mentor Connection a call. It’s kind of like Big Brothers. You can have a kid every weekend if you like. It’s a great program and Alison is a pro.

Gordon,  Stateside adoption for kids in the DFCS system doesn’t cost that.

Kids who have had parental rights terminated are a financial problem for the state and thier adoptions can be done a very little cost.  The flip side of the coin, is that most of the kids currently available for adoption are older.   Once you reach 8 or 9 in the system you are in a bad spot. NObody wants you

Most people looking to adopt are looking for younger children.

As for the thought that giving them back would be hard.  Yes.  It will/would.  But how hard would it have been for that kid to be in a crappy foster home (yes they exist) or in a group home because no individual homes were available. .

If you guys are serious Please don’t let the giving them back thing be a deal breaker.  You never know.  YOu could be the one fixed point in thier lives that allows them to move the entire world. call me when you have time if you guys might be serious.  690-2498.  you know the area code.

Here is the email I sent out followed by some pics of the results.  This gonna be abit disjointed, but, then again so is life.

    Hi Guys,

I have received comments on this need from several people, so here is what we are going to do first. If it works we will do it again. If not we will try something else.

As a service to our current Foster Parents we will be hosting a clothes drive and setting up a “Kid’s Closet” at a regularly scheduled Foster Parent meeting/training.  After the event any clothes remaining will be kept as a continous resource for our Foster Parents or donated to some of the other great organizations in our county.

Clothes can be picked up if need be by emailing us at FosteringBulloch@aol.com or replying to this email.  Or calling 690-2498.

The next meeting is scheduled for Sept 16 so we will need to hustle to pull this together.

Once collected the clothes will be sorted by size and gender and displayed at the meeting for parents and kids to “shop” thru.

We anticipate radio spots promoting this to begin running as early as today. The spots will be live reads, so we can amend them on the fly, as we add drop off points.

    ——————————————————————————————————————-

    NEEDS

We need for several local business’ or churches to serve as drop off points for clothes.  If you own a business or know someone who might could help out with this please contact us quickly.

We need clothes infant to 18 years old.  Boys and Girls.  And Diapers!!!

We will need help the day of the event to set up and break down the “Kid’s Closet”

    ——————————————————————————————————————-

Hopefully this will serve as an opportunity for us to introduce ourselves to local Foster Parents and allow us to discover other areas that we, as a community , can help with.

Any of you guys who have said, “…….we would love to help, but we aren’t at a place right now where we can foster a child.  What can we do?…..”  Here is your chance.  You never know which shirt , which pair of shoes, which store front drop off, which heart  might be the one that makes a huge difference in a kids life.

God bless all of you guys for your help.  Especially those who have contacted us via email and phone.  Those inputs are greatly greatly appreciated.

    Chris

Long story short, God provided this building. Old auto parts store with tons of shelves. So far we have provided clothes for 6 or 8 kids. Way cool.

Came across this old post googling pics of our efforts.    Google is scary good.

Fast Forward to today.  The building pictured has been donated to us.  Praise the Lord.  6K sq/ft depending on how you count, regarding some 2nd floor space.

The clothes closet looks a little different  thanks to a local couple being sent to tend to it.

i also got a grin out of my enjoyment of being allowed to help 6 or 8 kids.  Last year the clothes closet had over 100 kids impacted by it.  Not to mention the 30 or so beds, numerous cribs, high chairs, etc etc…. that were routed through this building.

Also, we got a waiver from the local govmnt, on property taxes.  so it is a legit FREE building.  If you want to go potty or run the AC, you have to pay for it.  But if we ever need not to, it will be FREE.
