Hey Guys and Gals,
Question for you:
how do you track the granite slabs when your customer comes and views them?
do you put the slabs away once they are sold?
how long do you hold them if they just come up and view them?
I would love to hear about your systems/ proceedures.
any suggestions??
thanks

Only if they make a deposit do they get their on a slab
March 9, 2011 at 6:01 pm #66573Andy GravesKeymasterWe don’t sell granite directly but our slab yards hold material for 7 days.
If they just view them, they are immediately returned to the rack.
March 9, 2011 at 6:19 pm #66574Matt RickardMemberwe will hold for 7 days without a deposit if someone is trying to make up their mind. The slabs don’t get tagged until the deposit is made then they get move to the sold area

Not yet, but it is much older than any other surfacing………so keep holding your breath.

Thanks so much for the advice since we are wholesale only it was getting hard for us to keep track of the slabs tagged. We went to strictly order/deposit only tagging system and life has been so much better. thank you very much!March 22, 2012 at 9:39 pm #71706Brian AndreMemberNew to the forum so I am just catching up.
We tag material when for the customer only when we have a signed PO or deposit.
We have 2 ways of tagging material
1 is to tag the material that is needed for the job, say 1 and a half slabs of uba tuba that the customer didn’t layout, and is our stock.
2 is to tag the material as an exact visual (EV on the tag) the customer typically does a layout with our shop.
We also keep a log book for slabs that are tagged (customer name, stone color, number of slabs tagged, salesperson, date when tagged, and room material to be installed in.) We update the log book once a month to make sure that the tagged material is still needed.
The system is not perfect, because of human error but seems to work good for us. We use a tagger from Walmart (DYMO Letra Tag) and outdoor tags with silicone to hold them on.
