seaming terrazzo counters, fixing chips and polishing how is this done ?
thanks Bill
September 15, 2009 at 12:08 pm #54209Andy GravesKeymasterWhat type of Terrazzo are you referring? It gets a bit confusing because there are different types of terrazzo types. For example there is Icestone and Vetrazzo that is sometimes referred to as terrazzo and then there is also material like Enviroglass.
Both can be fixed and seamed together.

September 15, 2009 at 2:41 pm #54212Brian StoneMemberIn general, diamond pads / sanding disks are used to polish these materials. Are you a fabricator that is looking to start selling this product or are you a homeowner that is thinking of making their own tops?
The tool options will be different if you are doing this once vs long term.

thanks Bill

Also, if you don’t use enough water you can grip into the surface and actually pull the aggregate out of the concrete.
September 15, 2009 at 5:02 pm #54216Andy GravesKeymasterChips are repaired using an epoxy and then color match to one of the chips in the counter and not the cement binder. As the material takes on a patina you don’t want the repair (that look like the cement) to stay the same color and the rest of the cement to change appearance. When you fill a void or fix a chip and make it look like another chip, it won’t matter what happens to the cement.
Use crystal clear water. Cement will stain easily and you don’t want you counter to look brown before it’s finished. You can also seal the deck prior to fabrication but on the edges you will still need to use the clean water.
Read the Vetrazzo manual for best practices and it should point you in the right direction.
Hope this helps,
Andy
