I am in need of some air filtration to cut down on dust. I was wondering if anyone has ever used these air cleaners. They are supposed to be the best and are priced very good. Let me know.

I use the JDS AIR-TECH 2000 Model 8-12 works great, and is less money than the system you are looking at. You can order at Specialtytools.com

around. We use a system where the dust is sucked in from the ground
the dust is than filtered and clean air is released back in from the
ceiling. The tubes than dispense the air encouraging the dust to the
floor . The link you see below has pictures of the unitshttp://archives.surfacefabrication.com/publication/article.jsp?pubId=1&id=57

Maybe someday.

September 9, 2006 at 2:02 pm #7406John CristinaMemberHave any of you tried Kevin’s dust raider? If you have, does it work well or get in the way more often than not? Does it work in vanity bowls?
Thanks,
John C.
September 9, 2006 at 2:29 pm #7407Norm WaltersMemberJohn, I have one. You can use it for the second cut (profile) of the sink, but not the first one. It also works for edge profiles but you can’t fit a router bit with wings over 2 1/8″ on it. Keven is suppose to be coming out with another one that will accomodate larger router bits. The bit I use for Staron sinks will not work with the dust raider, its too big.
September 10, 2006 at 7:20 pm #7426John CristinaMemberI think I will have to get one for my shop. Most of our debris on the floor comes from routing sinks and we only have to clean up the rim because the CNC cuts the sink hole out.
September 10, 2006 at 7:33 pm #7427KCWOODMemberJohn, I used the new Festool router at the IWF show. It had a dust pickup too, that worked good. I believe they said it would work with all bits, including sink bits. Probably more info on their website.

September 12, 2006 at 3:45 pm #7500John DineMemberTravis, The bad news is ” it’s a dusty business”. It’s always going to be dusty unless you do things wet and that opens other worm cans. By good particle mask and clean your shop daily and save your money. I’ve seen companies spend big money and in the end…….dust! Oh, the good news. I just saved a boat load of money with Geico on my auto insurance. ha ha.
September 14, 2006 at 1:38 pm #7612Karl CrooksMemberWe have been working on this problem for years (In my days as a Manufacture / Fabricator as well). For those of you that do not know, all that we do is on site repairs and refurbishing of Solid Surface and Estone, so keeping dust under control is a must for us. The best ways that we have found to do this is 2 main points. 1) As much as you can eliminate the reason for the dust in the first place! – Cut / Make, the part once as close as you can to the right size the first time so you do not have to cut / grind / sand off the extra. 2) Collect the cuttings / dust at the source – Do all you can not to let it get air borne. Many great tools have vac attachments or we make our own, so we do not need to mask off jobs site as the dust does not get air borne.
What are some of the ways others have found that work for them?
October 11, 2006 at 8:48 pm #8559John MauckMemberHas anyone tried an overhead vacuum system that would attach right to your tools? This seems like it would eliminate most of the dust and clean up in the shop. The shop we are in has such a system but we need to repair the dust collection unit before we can use it.
