If a mfg offered sink templates of there sinks would this be of value? How much do you consider fair to pay for them? ? Do you preferr phenolic or metal templates?

    Wags,

Think of it this way, two choices, one has a template and the other doesn’t. As a fabricator, which one you gonna recomend to the customer? What is fair to pay? Definetly have to cover costs plus a profit margin, but I would keep them reasonable as possible so the fabricator could offer plenty of choices to the consumer. Make the extra profit selling more sinks.

Twenty bucks? Maybe more , less is better. Perhaps make em out of particle board, to be used a a master pattern. The fabricator could make copies with a cutout bit with a bearing, using mdf or plywood, maybe solid surface scrap. Use these copies to do the actual cutout work.

I agree with Al, there are so many sinks out there I doubt anyone would pay for phenolic.

I paid about $75.00 for phenolic templates. Who do i order the sinks from, the guy that has the template that fits his sinks. If I get a different request… ughh, I hate spending the time making a template.

My thoughts were to offer them for sale at a reasonable price but give them to the customers that are loyal to us. 1/2″ phenolic the right thickness? What is your typical set back from the front edge to the cutout? Would having the template made so you could set it flush with the front edge be helpful?

How much smaller than the actual sink would you like to see the templates? Allow 1/8″, 1/4″ or? To allow some “fudge” factor when installing the sink?

    Wags,

Nice idea. It would also be very valuable to CNC guys if you gave out a dxf CD with the sinks. I mean every single sink that you have a file on in your whole line on every CD. Certainly cheaper than the templates, and you are somewhat in control of updates, discons and new offerings, which might entice some of us guys to sell more of your sinks, rather than the other guy who is not as thoughtful.

Please, please include inside cuts for those of us who believe that form follows function. I never knew so many good fabricators undermount with a reveal as default.

Instead of sending out an inferior template with each sale, give every customer a ticket for a free phenolic template the first time they buy that model – from you. They get a better template, you get a more loyal customer, who is at least likely to buy each first model from you.

But it is a nice idea.

Please, sir, please make the template as an overhang style.

    I’m begging.

    On. My. Knees.

    Signed,

    Begging

Years ago our Corian distributor would loan out phenolic templates to use on a job and pick them up on the next delivery, worked pretty well because you could flush cut your own template off theirs or you could buy them if you wanted to.

We allow ¼” for our cutouts and have a standard 4” setback, and yes I think having the template so you could flush them to the front edge would be helpful.

You might consider a universal system where you also (sell) them the proper template guides for the popular routers, that allow anything from a reveal to a 1/4″ overhang. Don’t screw the pooch on the selling price, but help us buy these.

There are ways that FabNet can help you do this, and Seth could probably use a nice payday. He’s got the madd skillzz to make this easy for you.

Were you around for the bevel mount days? I was actually getting to like the idea and started having fun with the different look you got with them. Templates and adjustments were a bear, though.

I still have the Corian 854 template, going on about 14 years now, because my distributor never picked it up. I did about four of the big 854s bevel mount, boy what a pain in the @ss they were. The bowls never wanted to seat into the bevel all the way around and too much adjustment you would have to recess the bowl and use that special bit to finish it off.

Thanks for the compliment Tom. Yeah Wags, anything I can do to help out, just let me know. Also, whatever CAD files you can provide us with would be greatly appreciated.

    Have a nice day,

WARNING!!!!! The Hi-Macs KSU2318 DXF file is WRONG.. The dimensions show the correct sizes for the sink but the geometry is exactly 2″ too long from side to side. It should be 20 3/4 and it is 22 3/4, however the front to back sizes are correct. Of course a person should always double check before cutting out the sinks (wish I did). I have already contacted LG and they have turned it over to their product manager to correct.

    Shane,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I have removed the file from the CAD/DXF Library. Thanks also for contacting LG.

    Have a good one,

    Seth
