Has anybody done a side by side comparison?

A peer of mine has had an unopened bottle for “the tough one” on the truck for years, but so far have had great success with their primary baby powder & acetone poultice.

A race to the bottom, as Tom so well pointed out with tounge in cheek.

Here is what I sent the fools, wasn’t in a good mood, so my usually tact and charm were missing,

I did NOT find the information I was looking for. What I wanted to know was:

Has the person who wrote this article ever had any experience with counter tops? Very misleading article, writer has no idea of what “nick names” solid surface has.

Solid surface misinformation contained in the article.

Seams are sold usually as near invisible, actually 95% of the time they can not be found by the home owner, the 5% of visible seams can be found once pointed out, if done by a qualified fabricator. It would have been better if the person writing this had left out the seam comment if they had no knowledge of the trade.

Cost of $90 to $120 per square foot? I would love to sell this fool a countertop. Actual costs, retail, are between $30 and $60 per square foot nation wide.

Then the ignorant writer claims that freezing will effect solid surface. Where did that come from? Granite, sure.

Now, on to granite, which we also fabricate and sell.

Sealing granite every three years? Bull, unless you don’t care about your reputation. Some stones need it every six months, more with customers that clean often or disinfect regularly.

While I have to give the writer credit for covering the staining issue with granite well, in most peoples worlds, discoloring is the same as staining. Don’t play word games, it depends on what the meaning of “is” is, is just spin.

Bacterial resistance? The writer is using the ridiculous study done by the Hospitality Institute, paid for by the Steel Alliance. No wonder stainless steel came out on top, huh? The study, for those who cared to read and were smart enough to comprehend, was about KILL RATE of bacteria on surfaces. They assume that consumers are stupid enough to swallow the argument without thinking that if there are more bacteria present on the sample, of course the kill rate will be higher. Also note that in that study they didn’t test the #2 most popular countertop (as reported from KItchen and Bath Design magazine), solid surface. Because it would have beat stainless steel in the test and the stainless group paid for the testing.

Cost on granite, self serving at best. Granite is sold from $17.00 per foot and up. Commonly found for $30 to $35 per square foot in larger cities, tops out around $60.00 in our market.

Now, about the quartz info. Again so many major mistakes. We fabricate and sell the stuff and can quote from manufactures warranty forms. You had better not use nail polish or nail polish remover on it, much less permanant markers or ink, oil soaps are also damaging. No quartz product is UV resistant, so don’t leave things like toasters, appliances or canister sets sitting on the top near windows. Major brands like Silestone and Zodiac even warn about using a non ph balanced cleaner like Windex or 409.

Price runs around $60 per square foot nation wide, with many sections of the country selling at $45.00.

Quartz is not heat resistant, nor scratch resistant, as the manufacture warranty sheets will attest to. Once scratched, it is extremly difficult to repolish as the sheen will be different. It is not resistant to acids, chemicals, solvents or oils, again the manufactures warranty sheets say otherwise.

I sell all types of tops and all can be a good choice. What burns me up is an ignorant yokel writing such crap and placing it on the internet to confuse consumers.

Try in the future to have a reputable counter top shop edit this “writer” in the future.
