    Randy,

I have mentioned several times that I pushed the choice of using Scintillators because I knew that the Scintillators would be ultra conservative. Lenny is on record several times saying that the other meter, the LENi Geiger counter would be more accurate to find the total radiation emmission. He is 100% correct, but for this purpose of surveying, we should be ultra conservative on saying one stone needs to be removed from the market.

Once I make that statement, that this stone needs pulled from the market, I am also trying like hell to get samples of that stone so the initial testing can be supported by Dr. Llope’s and several other scientists results.

Plus the scintillators can not be messed with, no ranges to reset, just a simple meter that measures accurately, even gives a level of certainty right below the main reading. At low levels, the meter knows it isn’t getting enough radiation for a 100% rock solid result, so it will display a percentage of certainty. 10 to 20% is usually the reading on low level stones, say 10 to 20 uR/hr. Once you find a hot stone, enough radiation is hitting the meter that it becomes more confident, the confidence level hits 40, 50, even 80%.

See the hole there that Mr. Radioactive Corian could drive a truck through were he smart enough to have found it by now? At low levels, say below 30 or 40 uR/hr, we can’t say with 100% certainty that the stone is really safe. But we can’t say it is 100% dangerous either, so we don’t say anything but it seems safe, but the stone must be tested to be sure.

That ain’t weasel words coming out, that is scientific integrity.

The radiation that the Scintillators don’t measure are Beta and Alpha. Some Beta particles can travela few meters in the air, and can penetrate several inches into the body (actual quote was tens of milimeters, 10 mm is about a half inch, assuming forty millitmers gets you close to two inches), other Beta particles are stopped by clothing or skin.

And we are not discussing Bremsstrahlung radiation which are a byproduct of Beta radiation, x-rays caused by the interaction of Beta radiation with other atomic nuclei.

Alpha is dangerous only internally, because of their propensity to dump ALL of their energy into a single cell instead of using it to blast through many, many, many cellls while knocking off electrons and disrupting the cells. Alpha becomes a danger from microscpic dust rubbed off the granite that becomes lodged in food or on body surfaces.

You make a sandwich on a granite top, cut up the tomatoes, well acid is used to disolve the radioactive material from granite to get uranium. Professor Nussebuam is on record stating that risk. Minute quanities of dust are also picked up by the bread and any other ingrediant that touches the granite. Rolling out dough is a favorite use of granite countertops, cooling cookies, some even thaw frozen foods on granite. The stoners cook steaks on granite as a stunt.

Or a small child does his homework, and all know that kids tend to put their hands in their mouths, depositing the radioactive, and toxic particles in their mouths. Maybe she is tired, rubs her eyes. The fact is that the Alpha is also a danger, but untill we can get corrected meter results, we will not use that in our discussion.

Scintillators aren’t going to be doubted, especially the ones we are using, supplied by one of the countrys experts in radiation meter use and callibration. Ask Dr. Llope what he thinks of George Dowell, know as Geo.

Is 1/16th an accurate divisor for all granite? No, Shivakaria or how ever you spell it, is a know high Alph emmitter, responsible for that upstate New York case where a top was removed. Build Clean has a pod cast with the guy that measured the radiation off the top.

Look back to where I posted the spreadsheet with the LENi results on the eighty granite slabs or samples, then compare them with our scintillator results and set up an average. My guess is that between 10 and 20 will become reasonable to base the difference between Gamma and Alpah/Beta results.

We have been fiddling for a few months now, Dr. Llope, an initial skeptic got it quickly. Other experts we have contacted still refuse to believe that our scintillators are accurate, despite the pictures an videos. They refuse to believe that anyone would import such a high level radiation stone and use it inside a home. Many other experts are taking our measurements seriously and testing them selves.

Guess what, they are asking for samples to be sent for further study. One by one, the sketics are becoming convienced by the facts. All that is left to battle are the least intelligent of those that sell the granites, or have sold millions of square feet of the product and are shaking in their boots at the prospect of this becoming public knowledge.

Other importers and quarrymen are doing the responsible thing, supporting the testng effort. These are the companies that will look good to a judge or jury should it be found that they sold some high levels stones.

The ones that have lied for the last 14 years, saying that it is a myth that stone has Radon or radioactivity are the ones that are fighting back.

    Choo, Choo…
