MemberA large percentage of the Formica product coming from the Chinese plant arrives warped. Heavily bowed across the sheet and wavy along the length. The last order we got had 3 sheets of the same color, all with exactly the same bends and warps heavily suggesting this is occuring on the pallets.
Makes for very difficult seaming.
Has anyone else had this problem with Chinese Formica sheets?

MemberHow old are the sheets? they are probably PL (pre-lenny) if those were the bottom few sheets of a pallet those usually warp from moisture, heat and weight in the container on the long trip over. Contact the distributor and have them swap them out. Have had this with another company and that is what they did. Back to Formica SS I have got some newer stuff because the distr. here just picked them up and we have no probs at all. Nice stuff

MemberI received the sheets about two weeks ago. Didn’t really notice the warps while they were lying flat.
I just measured the warp on one end and over 40″ it’s warped 1/4″. The other end is 3/16″ over the same distance and the middle of the sheet has a warp about the same. The sheets are also cupped. all three have approx the same warps.

MemberI was taught anything warped, cupped twisted was scrap. I have only had one problem and I refused to use it. I always inspect what I get, before I cut it. If I ever have a problem or even think there is a problem, I don’t cut it,
even if my distributor says I have to use what he sends me… LOL

KeymasterSend that crap back. If you accept it, they will think that is ok and start sending it to everyone.
We have done a few Formica jobs and have not seen that problem. I am sure Matt will respond to this thread. There must be and explanation.

MemberTom why don’t you give it a break.

MemberWarpage complaints have not been significant based on the thousands of sheets we have received from China. Get with your distributor and provide them with the color match numbers and get them returned. The distributor can provide us with the color match number so we can determine if this is localized issue with a specific color or larger issue with a change made in the plant or a storage or packing issue. Are the pallets plywood bottoms or slated wood?

MemberThe pallets are slatted wood and it appears the pallets are the cause as all sheets have the same warps.
The problem can’t be that insignificant as a job with 3 sheets of Copper Nugget the week before had the same issues.
The current product is Pecan Mosaic 1335017, 1335018, 1335019.
I appreciate your quick response and attention to this matter as unusable sheets create a major problem in our production schedule. It takes two weeks to get replacement sheets from our distributor as Formica canada dosn’t stock in Canada.

MemberYou always seem to have to get a dig in on us. Just gets tiresome.

MemberOn Formica personally, or on manufacturers in general?
Because what I was refering to wasn’t Formica – it was both Ginratar, with the Melange series, and with Hi-Macs, with most of their earlier stuff.
And I’m sorry, when you get bad sheet after bad sheet, and you’re told that you’re the only one with the problem – well that beras getting teed off about.
So. no, I wassn’t on “Formica” about this. I have plaenty that I could, if you wish.

MemberNow that I have figured out you in Nova Scotia, this may explain some things. You would be one of the furthest shipping points we would have out of the Indianapolis warehouse if it is coming from there. If the material is tightly banded to admittedly NOT the flattest skid in world for this amount of time is could cause an issue. I am going to speak to our warehouse manager in Indianapolis to see if we can change to a plywood bottom skid for shipments to your location. Pecan Mosaic is one of most popular colors we sell and I would of heard of warpage issues from multiple locations if there was an issue with the sheets themselves. I appreciate you letting us know of this issue and I will keep you informed of the progress

MemberThat’s cool I understand where you are coming from. I was on your side of the business for a number of years and can relate. I misunderstood you to be referring to Formica and took issue with that.
