MemberWell, I was a day late and a dollar short again. Not looking for a Ford Futura but this car was hot. Called them this morning and it was already sold. Rats! Foiled again in my effort to fix my mid-life crisis. Oh well, a boy can dream.

MemberWatching the Barret-Jackson vintage car auction as I type. Oh man, the prices for these mint beauties. A 62 Cadilac conv. just sold for 200 grand. A 70 Challenger for 120 grand. A 57 Bellair conv. for 175 grand. And on and on and on.
Puts bib up to mouth, wipes drool.

MemberHoly crap! A 57 corvette convertible for $235,000.00 ! Unbelievable.

MemberDave:
The car prices you are enjoying are the result of the baby boomers now having enough money to afford the cars they used to make out in.
So buy it and enjoy, but don’t think you’re going to sell in a decade and make a killing. The demographics just aren’t there.

MemberIt sounds like your looking for some American Muscle, I got not long ago for a little old guys in his 80’s, he could no longer drive a stick, she had 58k miles on her when I pick her up very clean. Do you ever use Craigs List to look for cars, I have found several steals this way, there are programs out there that will check all of the USA for ya if you do not mind shipping a car.

MemberKarl, yes, looking for American Muscle, never tried Craig’s list and not opposed to having it shipped in.
Was bidding on a 442 on e-bay that sat in Oregon but the price got way out of my ball park. I’m bidding on another 442 on e-bay but when I called the broker selling it, he made the mistake of telling me the reserve (why?) and letting me know he had a buddy on a differant car bidding it up for him. Utter BS. Still bidding on it because if it does not meet reserve, maybe the owner needs the cash and will take less. Who knows. Somethings I don’t trust about e-bay. Especially when your talking that kind of money.
Like Joe C. said, baby boomers who have made their money are driving up the price of these classics. Not a guy bidding at the Barret-Jackson auction wasn’t a 50 something with gray hair looking to re-live part of his youth. Nothing wrong with that.
We have a local place that has a real nice selection of vintage cars. They’re looking for me as well. It’s good to have a place where you can drive to and kick the tires. Takes a lot of that buyer beware part out of the equation.

Don’t want to sound to petty, but not only is this practice against EBay rules, it is against the law. It is a fraudulent auction. Not that you can do anything about it but really suprised he told you that.

MemberI was surprised to Andy. I simply called the # on the e-bay listing to find out what “70% of original paint” meant and ended up getting a 1/2 hour talk by this guy who was brokering it for the owner. He was telling me more than he should have. I’ve already bowed out of that one. A little to sleazy for me.
