Excuse me but I’ve heard it all before. Repeat…Repeat…Repeat…
Let’s see, we want to combat malaria in 15 African countries, lift debt relief around the world and promote NBA players. What a country…what a world.
I voted for George twice. I was wrong.
Do what’s best for your family, screw the politicians…all of them !

MemberDave, get your head out of your a##. You might think you voted for him, but are you sure you punched the ballots correctly, or was it you that had a few “hanging”. You might not agree with what is going on with him, but I am a firm believer in this is democracy at its finest. If CNN had been on Omaha Beach, there is no doubt where the americans would be now, a picture of Adolf on every street corner.
I have friends that have been in IRAQ, in and out of the green zone, they all say it is a good thing over there. One friend with CentCom in the Pentagon, just says, if the people knew what we are up against on a daily basis, and what goes on without the press knowing, everyone would support the President’s proActive stance on the terrorism.
Agree or not, this democracy we have is above all… God Bless America!

Dave, the truly sad thing is, the other guys were worse choices.
Hell in a handbasket.

KC, it would be awful nice if the folks over there stopped killing each other long enough to enjoy freedom.
I’m waiting for the next time we are acused of coddling a ruthless dictator. I want to remind them all of the times they kept saying that Iraq was better off with SH in power.

Tom, What I hear, is that so much of Iraq is getting back to some sort of normal. Thing is, other countries keep sending people into Iraq to disrupt, bomb and to create chaos. We have areas in our cities that are gang controlled, society threatened by crime, and police lose their lives to keep order here, it is just not as bad here as there, just same principle.

Memberseems to me Iraq has the same problem we do. An immigration problem. Seal their borders and seal ours. Allow in everyone that is needed but only AFTER you know who they are and what their intents are. I have spoken with a number of vets coming home and to a man, eveyone says were doing the right thing, that what is on our news is not what is happening. And don’t forget we will kill 1000 in DC this year. 75 years after our constitution we had a civil war. What do you think the insurgents would think if the Amecian people and press were unified in saying, we will be there till we succeed? Our adversaries know they only need to wait out America. We don’t have the will to stay the course. We are a society where we want everything wrapped up in a one hour TV program. They are willing to fight to the death, we need to arrange that for them.

All:
I can’t believe this, but with the exception of having ony voted for George Bush the first time, there is no difference between Dave’s position and mine.
O.K., I’m a bit less cynical, but that’s about it.
Here’s a little story for you stay-the-courser’s:
On March 18, 1970, I was a fifteen-year-old boy fast asleep when my mother insisted that I answer a 6:00AM knock on our door. “It’s two guys in Army outfits, they want to talk to you.” I said to her. “Mrs. Corlett, it’s our sad duty to inform you that your son, Gerald Earnest Corlett, has been killed in the line of duty in Vietnam.”
My world exploded. My mom called my dad home from the Jeep plant. I’d never known anyone to call my dad home for any reason previously. I saw my grandpa, the guy who could hit his thumb with a hammer and not flinch, cry for the first time. I knew then we were in deep, deep s##t. It is without question the most painful and horrific experience of my life and I left two fingertips in a tablesaw once.
These memories are like a CD that is burned into my head and the damn thing plays every time I pick up the paper and read about how twenty-eight service people died this weekend. Twenty -eight more fifteen-year-olds have the CD burned into their heads just like me. You can’t turn it off, although you get better at dealing with it after about twenty years or so.
Which brings me to Osoma Bin Laden. He has said that America doesn’t have the stomach for an extended fight in a foreign land. I make no apologies for agreeing with him. My family paid a huge price in vain and it pains me greatly to see we haven’t learned a thing, as history repeats itself. Spare me the “Joe’s soft on terror” crap. Invading Iraq had nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism and those who try to make that link are deluding themselves. It’s a lie, but great spin and effective.
So when you see the body count in the paper, remember, these are real families having their lives changed for the worse forever. Let’s stop burning that CD.

MemberKelsey, I don’t think…as a matter of fact, I know I did not mention Iraq, nor will I.
Tom, yes, once again, the lesser of two evils.
But to stand up there and say we need to balance the budget??? He’s kidding…right? What the hell has he been doing the past 6 years??
Please, can anyone tell me that speech had anything differant in it? It just gets ridiculous.
January 24, 2007 at 9:46 am #13572Joe Corlett
MemberDave:
I am confused over your reluctance to discuss Iraq. Iraq is without question the biggest foreign policy blunder since Vietnam and you’re unwilling to discuss it? You almost have an obligation to do so.
George Bush was not the lesser of two evils. I can’t believe I’m admitting this publicly, but let the record show that Joe Corlett voted for National-Rifile-Association-“F”-rated John Kerry to keep George I-take-my-orders-from-Jesus- Bush out of office.
Bush and the congress have been spending money like drunken sailors for the last six years, to answer your question. I wouldn’t worry too much though, as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product, the budget deficit is much lower than when Regan was president. We pulled through that O.K.
Not only do I not have the stomach for the Iraq war, I couldn’t even bear to see Bush’s face, let alone listen to his pratteling. I can’t even stomach the synopsis of the speech in the paper. The man is possessed by an evil and stupid demon and his impeachment can’t come soon enough to suit me.

MemberJoe, don’t split hairs with me. Kelsey went off on Iraq, I simply stated that I did not mention it…in other words, that was not the purpose of the post.
The purpose being that it was just the same old crap being spewed by The Beaver.
Should have changed the channel to Seinfeld re-runs.

KeymasterRepeat history?
This is unbelievable. We are the greatest country in the world. We have and obligation to the people of the world to stick up for the weaker people. I remember my mom always told me on the first day of school to be friends with the kid that was scared and by himself. She said it was my obligation to help the people with nothing.
We have that obligation to these people just like we had an obligation to Kuwait, Albania, Panama, France, Poland, England, Germany, Israel, Korea, and the list goes on an on. If you can’t stomach the sacrifice that it takes to be an AMERICAN than go be someone else.
Saddam had already attacked other countries and invaded Kuwait. The writing was on the wall and he had to be eliminated.
Vietnam was a mistake only because we pulled out and didn’t declare it an all out war. People would still have died, but really we should have nuked North Vietnam when we had the chance.
Joe, better prepare yourself, cause in the next 20 years we will have to go to war with Korea, Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Argentina…did I leave someone out? That is human nature and we are human. It will never change.

*bzzzz!* Wrong, Joe. Iraq had a considerable amount to do with the war on terror. Can you think of a strategically superior place for us in the Middle East to fight a war on terror over there? I know this is going to fall on deaf ears, but when Bush “lied” to us about WMD’s he was echoing the “lies” of most of the western world, the Democrats in Congress and the former president of the United States. Further, I think SH had the weapons, but through the feckless and indeed conspiritorial actions of the hapless greedy bastards in the UN, they were spirited away to Syria, etc. Cannisters were found. The press and the left were screaming “well, what about the chemicals trhat went into them? You can’t have wmd’s with out them. Chemicals were found. “Well they aren’t together, so no, you are still wrong.” This whole campain by those of us that actually wanted us to lose this is the most bizare example of goalpost-moving in the history of this country. Salmon Pak, harboring Al-Queda fugitives, and providing resources for terror groups, as well as a pay as you blow plan for Palestinian terrorists should have been enough right there. Add the fact that the UN was eroding whatever veneer of credibility it had left after 12 resolutions (we’re reeeeeealllly gonna get mad this time!), coupled with the oil for food scandal, and it was frankly up to us.
Bush’s problem isn’t that going in was wrong, or that the war wasn’t winnable. The war was won in a matter of weeks. The aftermath is what’s killing us and our troops (literally). This is where he and his staff are screwing up. The idea that our goal should be to rebuild after we wreck the place should not have been a consideration. We shouldn’t have been so eager to be “nice”. After we had everyone cowering in fear not knowing what we would do to them, that’s the time when the smile and help should come out. W’ve put up with far too mauch crap in this, and I doubt that we’ve learned any kind of lesson, left or right.
I was sorry to read about your brother. One of my best friends was amongst the last marines to leave the embassy on the pull out. A sad experience for all.

You know I agree with you about 95% of the time, but, this is not one of the times. I was in Viet Nam in the Marines, I lost many fellow marines and 17 from my high school. I presently ride with the Patriot Guard Riders. I have been to way more funerals than I ever wanted to. But to a person, every family has expressed full faith in what were doing in Iraq. Three weeks ago I got up at 4 am to escort 600 troops leaving Arizona to head to the war. I spoke with several dozen of them and to a person they all supported what were doing.
War is horrible, unjust, but history has proven most were necessary. Many years after the Viet Nam War was over, North Vietnamese generals were interviewed. Among other things they admitted that after TET (Jan of 68) they were at the point of giving up. But they saw the anti war groups and heard what they were saying. They saw the “news” telling the American People it was hopeless, and knew that all they had to do was cause as many casualities as possible and hang on, the Americans would give up. War is horrible, I saw it first hand, and its not something that should be taken out of context and put on TV for “naive” civilians to see. Its like making sausage, if you saw it being made you would never eat it, but the result is good. Note also, Lincoln had horribly low ratings also, as did Washington. Did you know that most Americans were against the Revolution ? Ask the 6 million killed in Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia that were killed after we left Viet Nam if they thought it was worth while for us to be there.
The difference with this war is, if we leave, they will follow us. These “people” are not someone you can negotiate a truce with. They want us dead period. They are willing to die for what they believe in and if we value our form of Government we have to be also. It pains me dearly to have to go to these funerals, my wife asked me why? I can’t explain it, but perhaps its because I will NEVER allow another American Soldier, Sailor, Marine or Coast Guardsman to come home to anything less than heros welcome home. Be they dead or alive (yes we escort those coming home also).
Is this war important? It may be one of the most important wars we have ever gotten into. We can”t hide from this war. It IS our business. My oldest son was in Desert Storm in 1991. He is suffering from Cancer today at age 35, I think directly from his exposure in that war. It breaks my heart, but as so many millions of others were willing to give whatever they had to for this country so am I. We live in the best land in the world, for all its faults. While I don’t agree with much of what George Bush has done ( out of control spending being one) I do understand the fight were in and the importance of winning this war, we have no choice. No one wants it over more than those that are fighting it, trust me on that. But they also know that millions of kids are back in school, that hospitals are working, and things are getting better. I wonder what would happen if the Media got behind what this country is doing and we presented a united front? The insurgents know they can never beat us on the battlefield, they can only beat us by holding on and waiting for the Americans to grow tired of seeing the death and destruction on the news and we give up. God help us if that happens. The fight were in now will see like the “good old days” if that happens.
Thank God GW beat Gore, I shutter to think what would of happened.&am;nbsp; I also wonder what would of happened if Clinton would of done his duty while he was in office, instead of cutting the military to the bone and selling us out. If he would of been strong in his response to the first rounds of this war? Perhaps 3000 people in New York would be alive…..
