MemberThis is way off topic. Who works out? I just bought a Body-Solid gym. I had a Bow-Flex, but I felt that I needed to get lean, at least thats what everyone says that we do countertops for (HAHA). Seriously, I have a treadmill, but I was looking to buy and elliptical machine. Does anyone out there have one that they like or got rid of becasue they didn’t like it?

MemberMory, I bought a BowFlex a few months ago…. I still look the same, weigh the same. The more I worked out the more I ate, the more I drank. It now serves as a coat hanger on occasion…. I think I still have a treadmill. May have to move some clothes to see if it is still there. Just kiddin, no i’m not. maybe……!!!! 🙂

MemberKC,
I am serious about this workout. I quit smoking the end of June and gained about 20 pounds. I now have what you would call a “spill over tumor”. If I can quit smoking, I can do this. I need to get my body fat down to 3.7. I know that is a stretch, but damn I would sure look good. Got rid of the clothes hangers. I started working out an hour every day. Its quite painful. I won’t even tell you about this ab chair my wife bought. All I can say is OW!

MemberI have a garage full of exercise equipment. The problem is having the time or the desire to use it. I just had to rearrange it yesterday to make room for a ton of wood pellets I bought. I really need to get back to it to loose some weight. Good luck Mory, let me know how it goes, you can be my inspiration.

MemberMory,
Congrats on the quiting smoking thing. I did it 4 years ago and I still have those same pounds with me today. Just can not find the desire to go throgh that exercise pain like when I played ball all the time. You are correct though if you can quit smoking you can do anything after that stress.GOOD LUCK
Shane,
Wood pellets? I thought it was warm in your part of the country.

MemberReuben,
We are about two hours from the Oregon border, the true Northern California. Now I know it doesn’t get near a cold as a lot of you guys have to endure but anything under 72 degrees and my wife is dying of hyperthermia. We now are having lows in the mid 40s and highs in the mid 60s, although we did have frost on the ol’ pumpkin the other morning. I find that it is much better to keep a supply of pellets around rather than burning propane.

MemberMory, I lost 25 lbs just changing the way I was eating. I work all day doing remodels, and that has always kept the weight off, but getting older has a way of changing all that. I just don’t eat like a kid anymore, no burgers, no fries, basically anything that tastes good, lol. If you can live on turkey, chicken (not KFC) and salad you will drop some weight fast.

Norm is spot on about eating healthy. Several years ago Susan and I started on the South Beach diet and modified it to meet our lifestyle. ANY diet that leaves you hungry is doomed to fail because at some point you just give in. The hardest part about the South Beach is the first two weeks. Once you are past that the rest is easy.
My day starts with a glass of V8 instead of OJ, a generous portion of egg beaters and two slices of Canadian bacon. Don’t forget the 16oz coffee with a teaspoon of brown sugar and soy creamer (silk).
I dropped an easy 15 pounds when I started this diet and the pounds have stayed off. At Stonexpo I had a big full breakfast, salad and soup for lunch, and ribeye, rack of lamb, etc for dinner. Don’t forget the occaisonal glass of wine (yeah right). This AM I weighed in about 1-2 lb over last week. By weeks end those pounds will be gone.
We will be off to Barbados in a few weeks, staying for a few weeks. I expect to gain at least 8-10 pounds while on vacation. It will all be gone within two weeks of returning. Even faster if I do some exercise, like building the addition to my house.

MemberMory,
I bought an elliptical this past spring. I used it faithfully til the weather turned warmer, and I got most of my exercise throwing ball with the kids and working around the house. Now that the weather is turning I will start it back up. The new ones have preprogrammed “routes” that change resistance, and incline, as if you were running track. I think the walkers have this now, as well. The change in “ground” contour does tend to break the monotony.I’m still too heavy and too lazy to put the time in it needs. I too need to quit smoking and soon.

MemberI spent a couple hours at fitness store. Got the scoop on all these things. I didn’t know it was going to be that tough. These things will do everything, but prevent achy muscles. Got it home and plugged it in. The electronics will do lots of stuff including tell me how far I have gone on. I can even pretend I am going up hill. Well I got news for it, we are going down hill to start. 5 minutes and these things will kill you. Feel like a wet noodle when you get off of it. Boy, am I out of shape. Let the pains begin. I am not quitting. Going to drop blubber and build muscle.
