Just got my Tempest samples. very unique material. Some large particulate is actually clear, so if it is 1/4 dia, one can see 1/4 down and around in the material. The lighter colors show this much more than the darker one. The color Coffee Bean however does not show this feature, and actually looks like water spots on the surface. The 5 colors that really show this feature off extremely well, is Shell,Caraway,Rattan,Cinnamon and especially Russet. This has to be the awesome looking SS yet.. the colors are just outstanding. It is the most expensive of the entire Staron line, but I feel consumers will see value in this.
The great advantage to this line is that it can be used in commercial applications that require solid surface. I can see this product being spec’d.

Kelsey, I am picking up my Tempest samples tomorrow, material will be available next week. Have you fabbed this stuff yet? How do the stacked edges look? Doing the face to back method?
Norm, the edges look excellent with what I got. The particulate is very consistant front to back, so I went face to back, looked real good. JUST WAIT till you cut it. What a smell…YUCK!!!!!! Be careful when you pick it up, our first time and I thought it was going to bend so much that the ends would meet. VERY flexible. The dust is more like a cross between polyester/acylic. Shavings are very small. This is one sheet I wish they made 3×10′. We will start picking it up about 2-3ft from the ends, instead at the end. It really startled me when it flexed so much. I think the clear chunks are Lexan…. the smell is different than anything I have cut.
Lexan… ??? What else gives you a crystal clear chunk? I’m just guessing, but this stuff smells weird, Plus the color I’m using Caraway, the shavings are a light brown too. Even if I fab black my shavings are white… why is this colored? I’ll post pics if the edge at lunch..

INTEGRA ADHESIVE NOTE: To avoid the confusion I had with the new Tempest series and the adhesive; I checked the label to see if the right color, yep BEACH… then right under it it says E-Stone Bonder. Crap.. wrong stuff I think. I call Integra, but those guys are still asleep on the west coast. A call to my distrbutor, he says “Don’t use it… till we talk to Integra. Well, since I got to have this job done by noon, I chose Tidal Sand which I had, it worked fine. Then Chad calls from Integra and he says that is the right Adhesive. They put extra ingredients in the e-stone bonder, that makes it better for this translucent Tempest series. I’m sure Chad can explain this better. I did notice tips are not included with the adhesive anymore.
Chad explained that is a cost savings on their part. They did not want to raise pricing. But didn’t they just shift the extra cost to us? I bet it is cheaper for us to buy tips than for them to package the tips and bag it all.

Then no confusion. We all thought it was a totally different adhesive and would not work on SS.
Then… I go to set my 3181 STARON sinks and they are NOT FLAT….uggh what a day!
Andy, Here is the edge of Caraway, the New Tempest series. The only thing I have noticed, when one of the very large clear chunks is cut, the straight edge on the chunk can be seen. As you can see, the large particulate is found top to bottom,

I work on countertops during the day and I work on the FabNet at night. I stay up until I am done with my “list”. I usually don’t get to work until about 8:30, but I don’t go to bed until about 2 am.
That looks great. Looks like it is time to do my bathroom with the new Tempest to give it the full test. Thanks for posting the pictures.
We have clear chips in our poly blend product that we make in our shop. Its not Lexan, it just a non-pigmented chip. ATH & resin, no pigment.Nothing to be scared of. As far as the smell, that chip may be poly in an acrylic sheet. Are you familar with poly smell when you cut it??
