MemberA few days ago we are riding around and my three year old says “Daddy, when you were little did Grammie give you a spider man cell phone?”
After a few seconds of silence my wife starts to respond and I can’t help but laugh because I know EXACTLY what she is going to say…………………………

MemberChris, that’s funny, I can remember when two cups and a string used to do it for me.

KeymasterWell…what did she say?

MemberAndy,
She said the same thing any 30 something would. “Honey, when your daddy and I were litlle we didn’t have cell phones…..”
We also talk sometimes about how we are going to have to explain sayings like “roll the window up (in a car)” and ” dial the phone”. The origins of those will be foriegn concepts to our kids.

MemberJon, his kid is 3, I believe he is referring to a toy cell phone, which was something we didn’t have as kids because there were no cell phones to imitate.

MemberMy daughter wrote an essay (she’s thirteen) on why she needed a cell phone, how she was going to pay for it, which plans were best for her, which phone was the best deal, and how she was going to use it.
Pretty darn impressive – kind of like what I did to convince my father we needed a CNC.
She is working here at least one day a week (Saturdays during school) and worked four out of five days this past vacation.
She got the phone.

MemberFor show & tell one day at my sons kindergarten class, one of the boys brought his cell phone…a REAL one. Arrrgghhh That nite, I heard: “Dad, when can I have a cell phone?” Thinking…thinking…thinking.
So I responded: “When daddy sells his insurance agency like Mikeys dad did. And, when you eat a whole plate of peas & carrots”. He asked what an insurance agency was and that he did not like peas & carrots.
“Exactly”, I responded. It has not been brought up since.

Jon,
don’t feel like an idiot I have seen 5 year olds walking around talking on cell phones, a 3 year old on a cell phone isn’t that far fetched, sad, but not far fetched
