KeymasterI have received a few emails in the past week about what has come to be our most popular thread. It was asking me to delete the thread or lock it so no more post could be added. As the administrator of this forum I try my hardest to allow all of you to post whatever is on your mind. You are adults and should be given the opportunity to voice your opinion as long as it is done in a respectful manner.
It is very difficult at times to decide whether something should be eliminated and often times I will consult other before I make a final decision.
But whether post stays or goes, please remember that you do not have to read or participate in threads that don’t interest you. And, you are also more than welcome to post your own thoughts about the subject.

MemberOn the whole, it turned out to be quite a useful thread. I don’t think it has any benefit anymore for the participants, so locking it makes sense. But it may serve a purpose for future readers. It was a difficult topic, that had to be carefully handled. I think that most of the time civility triumphed.I suppose you guys have to decide if you want this to be 100% customer freindly, or if there’s room for family squabbles. Me? My brother and I had some of the best fights in my life, but he’s still a hero of mine. You have awhile to worry about that, though. Your a fab forum, and that’s what we all need right now. If the reason you’re concerned is because some people are sore over it, I don’t see why anyone should be.
If you are considering making this a public-freindly site, see what the folks over at Kitchen&Bath pros have done. The sign in is for designers, fabricators, tradesmen, etc., and there is a public section where questions are asked by the public, and answered by the guys who are part of the industry area. I will try to find you a link on Monday.

MemberTough decision Andy, Tom has stated he did his last post. I feel this parallels your statement;

My opinion for what it is worth is that as long as this thread stays within the guidelines of your site it should stay. I decided early on that I would do a read only and I changed my mind when I felt I had something positive to add. It is interesting to read the raw feelings people have about some subjects and isn’t that the beauty of a forum not under the control of people that like to censor posts to suit their own agenda? I trust and respect your judgment and whatever you do I know you are doing it for the right reasons.

MemberMy thought is that it should stay. Personal attacks/insults are out of line, but constructive criticism almost always has some truth to it. Example: one of my superiors at work and I had a disagreement recently. I still feel that he was initially in the wrong, but I did take some of his criticisms to heart and found out areas that I need to change my course. You just have to sit down and think about things, none of the initial emotions involved, and decide what you can learn from and what you should just let go by the wayside. Like said on another thread, question authority. The thread was valuable to me just to make me realize that I am missing out by not participating here, along with learning things that could be improved on the other site. I’ll respect whatever choice you make Andy/Mory.
Have a nice day,
SethP.S. I had my settings so that 100 posts show up per page – never thought I would have to change it, but it is
now set to 200.November 12, 2006 at 9:29 am #9406ChairmanPau
MemberIt was asking you to “delete the thread”. Hmmm, did not know Fidel Castro had access to this board. Do what you must…

KeymasterSorry for the confusion. The long thread stays. What I meant to say it that whether any thread stays or goes you are not required to read and participate.

Click on the box toward the top of the forum “My Settings”. You will now be in the section to change your profile. Now click “User Settings” and you can change the number of post viewed and the number of threads viewed.
Caution: You may experience problems if you increase the number past 50. If you do experience problems after you change the number you can just lower the number until the problem goes away.
You can also reverse the oreder the post appear by scrolling down to the bottom of the forum. You will see a drop down box that you can change the way the forum is viewed. Just select the one that suits you best.

MemberAl,
Up near the top of the page, there is a link that reads “My Settings”. Click on that. Then click the plus sign beside User Settings. Enter the # of threads that you want to view per page and the # of posts that you want to view per page. I have my posts per page set to 200 now. I just hit the End button on my keyboard when the thread comes up and it takes me to the bottom of the page and the newest post – just what I’ve gotten used to doing. Pages load fairly quickly even with a hundred posts on them, unless there are pictures attached to the posts.
