MemberThe cabinet shop I work for is making its first attemt at doing some No-drip edge tops. We purchased an Amana #57118 no-drip bit to do this. The edge on all of our test pieces looked terrible. I think in part to the fact that this bit is made for 1/2″ material and the Corian is slightly under 1/2″. Just for the heck of it, we laminated another 1/8″ thick piece to the front edge making it slightly under 5/8″ thick. Then used the same bit and it looks great. But I shouldnt have to do that. My question is whether there is a better bit out there? Or am I just doing something wrong.

Every bit I’ve ever bought from Wesley Tools has worked flawlessly. Google ’em.

MemberHey Andy, Is this what your are doing? Laying another piece of 1/2″x13/16″ into a rabbet on the front of the top? How deep is the rabbet?

KeymasterThe Rabbett is about 1/8″. It can be less, doesn’t really matter, it is just there so you don’t have a feathered glue line on the deck.
If you don’t cut your insert piece down in height, it will be much harder to route.
Better idea all together is run the no drip piece through a table router with the no-drip router bit. You will have to be pretty precise, but makes for a much nicer, smoother cut. Initial setup takes a while though. After the first job it goes pretty fast.

MemberThanks for all the help Andy. I see you run Olive Mill. You are actually just a few blocks down La Palma from our shop. I may stop in one day to see what all you do. Perhaps we can sub some work out to you.
