I was at a customer’s house yesterday. We are redoing her kitchen. This couple is an elderly couple. They picked solid surface for their countertops. She told me that she liked the looks of it becasue it looks like granite. She went on to tell me she could not have granite or any other stone products becasue she likes to work in the kitchen and that all the other countertops bothered her arthritis, they are too cold. I left and thought there is some good advertising.

    Hey Mory,

Just what exactly were these old timers doing on their countertops? Never mind don’t answer that. That mental image could scar me for life. I always liked to scare em with the raydon tactic. I use to have an article about the amount of raydon in in natural stone. Of course when I started selling stone that technique went out the window. Bottom line. there’s plus and minus about both products. As for me, I have Corian. Looks as good and the day I installed it, back in 1987. Almond baby!

I used to tell customers that, as we were leaning on the Corian top, if they had stone we wouldn’t be able to do this for long. They would instantly have a sense-memory flashback and flinch their hands away. Heh, heh.

I ran into one customer who claimed that she was allergic to acrylic! Sold her an Avonite polyester top. I have heard of latex allergies, but has anyone heard of acrylic allregies? Heck, is there any particles floating around or rubbing off except when you sand the stuff? I wondered what color the sky was in her world……..
