We had a new black granite counter top installed in our kitchen.

Around the sink there’s some kind of stain.  I had the installers re-check it, and they said there wasn’t a stain.  It was just my eyes playing tricks on me.  The installer had his manager and a specialist with him.

The installer applied some Italian paste that would pull out any stain out of granite and let it sit for 24 hrs, just because I insisted that there was a stain.  It did nothing.

I wonder if it’s the silicon they used to install the sink?  Or is it water stains?  Is it normal?  It it ok?  The stains are not anywhere else on my counter top.

Can you post a picture?

I have seen where an enhancer is used and does not get done on the edge of the sink opening. This makes it look dark on the deck and lighter on the opening.

And the “stain” is actually darker.  And blue-ish in color…It’s all around the sink, but mainly on the left side.  It’s not a “natural” occurrence in the stone.  Something is “fishy” about it.

The stain has neither gotten bigger or smaller since the initial installation, so I guess that’s a good thing.  But it bothers me.

Anyway, I saw the picture. That looks like a huge stain. My eyes must be playing tricks on me and the camera.

Looks like an attempt to polish something off of the surface, by something I mean scratch or mistake by the fabricator by skipping a pad on top…..

I looked at your pic – that does not look like a stain to me.

Material looks to be Brazil Black/Black Aracruz.

Most true black granites like yours are very difficult to actually stain.

Looks like one of the following:

* A color enhancing sealer was applied to the surface (unevenly) to make the material appear “darker”. This is only at the surface level and can be removed by a professional with chemicals (Tenax makes one specifically for this situation).

or

* Another poster above mentioned in that this looks like a variation in the surface finish – possibly caused in the fabricator’s shop. A refinishing professional with some MB-20 compound should be able to blend to match the surface finish.

You could contact the MIA (Marble Institute of America) or the SFA (Stone Fabricators Alliance) to find a professional in your area. Good luck!
