MemberI stand corrected, LG is there.

MemberLG has a small booth, mainly to hand out invites to its part. Avonite has not been there in sevral years, Corian is not there this year. Why…..ummm. personally I believe its due to the cost of booth, people and all the shows they go to, and, lack of attendance. Last year the attendance was about 3500, of which about half are vendors. Hard to justify $50,000 to $100,000 or more for that few people. The show needs to be merged with a larger draw..ie KBIS or Builders show etc. Just my humble opinion.

MemberEOS 3cm will be there, we didn’t make the list due to our late registration, that may be the case with the others. I did hear from a Dupont regional manager that they won’t have a booth but they will be there to observe.

Sort of the DuPont Prime Directive, I assume.
Just kidding Mr. MacD.
I think I booked my flight today.

MemberThere to observe? What the hell does that mean? I think the powers that be will be very surprised being that this show, finally out of the cesspool known as Vegas, will be a hit !

MemberI am very interested in seeing how the show performs out of Vegas. I would love to see the Show hit New York. In any case do you think the show will do better on the east coast?

MemberWags,
2 years ago Avonite had an awesome booth in Vegas, LG had their Chicks on the runway booth, Dupont had a booth bigger than all the others. Could it be that since Cygnus is still making it seem that ISSFA is the promoter of the show, is the reason all the big players are shying away??
Without the large exciting showings by Corian, Avonite and LG…. is like going to a major car show and GM, Ford, and Chrysler not showing. only the imports showing up. I’m not sure what you meant by only 3500 showing? This is a small limited market, high dollar and the time manufactures can give back a little something to their customers.
Believe me when I say, fabricators talk about how the manufacturers treats them. If a manufacturer treats their customer with the utmost respect, and provide first class food and entertainment for them at a show, it just helps build a stronger relationship. We all know it is their way of saying Thank You and how they appreciate our business. On the other hand, if we are made to feel as “So What” why should we partner with someone that doesn’t seem to care if we do business with them or not.
KC
oh by the way, hypothetical question (or is it)
How would anyone feel if a manufacturer told you about their big party and then told you sorry you are not invited???

MemberI would think Dupont understands who runs the show. Can we blame ISSFA for everything? Being wined and dined is nice. But it’s not the most important thing. I really don’t care what a booth looks like. What’s in the booth is what matters. New items. Fresh ideas, Etc…

MemberCan’t hang this on ISSFA.
When you get to the point in a market where every penny counts, ’cause your margins are so low you thin out your toilet paper, I’d say it’s time to start seeing how your service and support departments are doing.
They need to remember: The Fabricator is supposed to be the Reactive guy. The Manufacturer is the Proactive guy.

MemberThese shows are very very expensive for mfg. And they have many shows they do each year. Im sorry to say this show is magrinally attended and the ones I have worked brought very little new business. I agree its nice to go to dinner and being stroked, but the bottom line is your paying for it. KBIS will draw 60,000 attendees, many of whom sell solid surface. If they get to that audience and the Kitchen Desigers request their product, you will fabricate it, even if you didn’t get dinner etc.
Avonite was one of the first to support ISSFA and I don’t believe it has anything to do with ISSFA that they are not there. I think its really just a matter of $$. Hi Macs spends 100’s of thousands of $ on these shows…do they really sell more because of it? Do you choose whose products your going to sell based on ISSFA, or based on what your customers request? I personally think its better to drive sales rather than going to ISSFA. The majority of fabricators will do whatever their customers request. Yes they can lead someone towards a products but its the specification work that drives the SS industry. Have you been to KBIS or The home builders show ? they are HUGE….Then add in Surfaces, Neocon, AIA, CSI, ASID, IIDA etc you see all the shows mfg have to attend. Time to merge the ISSFA Expo in my opinion.

MemberI only posed the question? Something has happened , just asking the question what it could be.
January 31, 2007 at 8:19 pm #14212Tom M
MemberMaybe Hi-Macs has it right, then.
The conference is merely a place where Hi-Macs conveniently has a group of customers to throw one big party for. Saves money, and they wine and dine those that are good customers.
Problem is, the inertia for shallower attendence, because they and their brethren are not there, grows to the point where it’s not even worth throwing the damn party.
Hi-Macs came on the scene vowing to “Put the fabricator first”.
Well, no business plan survives the light of day, I guess.
Tom
Does anyone know if the party is to be held at the same time as the FabNet soiree?

MemberThis show is pivotal. I left last year wishing for something different. The thing I liked about the early shows where the type of classes that we had. It really wasn’t about the trade show. That was the icing on the cake. Does anybody have an old show program? I felt last year the classes where infomercials more than any thing. Don’t get me wrong many classes where well done. The content in general needs to be overhauled.
