MemberI went to a local laminate flooring store yesterday to pick up some transition pieces for a floor I was finishing up. These transition pieces are not cheap by the way, around $25 apiece and I needed eight of them. I go into the store and there is one employee there, it was early. I find what I need and he says “if you have cash I can give you a great deal on these, we haven’t done inventory yet”.
My first thought as a bargain hunter is wow, cool. Then I start thinking about it and I can’t believe the mentality of this guy, heck he could be working for me. I declined his offer and made sure I got a receipt. This is not the first time this kind of thing has happened here in the revolving door state of Florida. Dedicated employees? Yes, dedicated to themselves, and taking no prisoners.
There is a fabrication shop in my area that I think is a model shop. There are three partners that own it. One is in charge of sales, one in charge of fabrication, and one in charge of installation. I believe without a vested interest in the company you will never have the same dedication to the company that you provide.

MemberI absolutely respect the way you went about that Norm and the owner of that company would as well.
Just to let you folks know, that is the type of guy Norm is. He picked up some product from us last week and I made the mistake of billing him for 1 router bit when he received 3. Norm e-mailed me and said I needed to bill him for 2 more. That, my friends is pure honesty.

MemberDave,
Along these same lines, did you ever get that bowl removal bit that Velepec sent to me?

KeymasterNorm,
Are you saying that this guy was going to sell the pieces cash and put the money in his pocket? Why don’t you let the owner know about it? Those people belong in jail. They are thieves.

MemberYes Chris. Thanks! You da man…

MemberAndy, yes the guy was going to put the money in his pocket. Should I try and contact the owner, maybe, am I going to , no.

MemberNorm, I have been in your same shoes and something inside me just had to call the owner. Also I have been on the other side when someone on my team has told me about a team member that was stealing from BTP. Both can be hard to deal with.

MemberWhy would you not tell the owner? Who are you helping by standing by and letting this employee continue to steal? This was probably not the only time he has tried this. If you saw someone shoplifting, what would you do? I think it is our responsibility to speak up when we see something like this. We all pay in the long run. Silence gives consent.

MemberYears ago I had two employees stealing entire dining room sets, $1.500 plus wholesale, paying their rent with them. Thanks to a new hire, a lesbian by the way Mr. Corlett, we found out about it and put and end to it.
SIlence does indeed give consent.

MemberAll, if I did business with this company on a regular basis, and had a clue of who the owner was, I would tell him. I am not going to research the company to find out who the absentee owner is, my conscience is clear. Stop the guilt trip.

What does this persons sexual orientation have to do with this thread? Would it have been important whether this person was black, blue or green?
Maybe you were just giving Joe, credit for associating with folks from all slices of life.

MemberJohnny C, more about showing Joe that when he jumps to conclusions based on a persons comments, he can be dead wrong. Joe made the case a few days back that if you don’t agree with gay adoption, you think the worst of gay people. Just a chance to drive home the point not to tar with a wide brush till you ask questions. Otherwise I would not have mentioned it.
And for the record, sometimes color does enter into the mix. Ask Imus about it if you ever get to meet him.
Associating with all slices of life? I always say most minorities are just like white people, some good and some bad, but all have their chips on their shoulders.
I guess my point on that post was how honest and also couragous for a new hire to bring that theft to our attention.
You cool with that answer? Only one I got…..
