MemberWell, I recd. the second request of the day for a Karran sink bowl bit. Never had a request for 1 and now 2 in the same morning. Called the fine folks at Velepec who can usually tell you all things SS bits. Bob states that he has requested the degree of the sink from Karran on numerous occassions and has got the runaround. I called Karran this morning and the nice lady on the phone had some description that had nothing to do with the bowl bit and then sent me in to some voice mail hell.
So, anybody using Karran sinks and with what bit?

MemberDave,
In the past I used a good amount of them until we learned better but here is what I did. Use a flush trim bit then used a 3/8″ round over bit. If you cut there sink sometimes just a little the backing shows, so this worked fine for us.

MemberThe power of this place is just amazing. Ask and ye shall receive! Boxed up a Velepec 30-150 and it’s out the door. Thanks John, lunch is on me next time I’m in South Florida.

MemberJohn,
What do you mean tell you learned better? I have been using them for laminate and have considered it for everything. I do not want to if their are some issues out there with them. You can e-mail me at hoffstops@cozadtel.net if you do not feel your response is to critical for the site.
Thanks, Reuben

MemberJohn,
Ummm… me too- info@mathertops.com.
I have undermounted one for a laminate top in my home, as a test run. Told the kids to beat the crap out of it. Curios about what you think of them.Tom

MemberDave, if I’m going to recommend a product, I like to see it in the market for at least five years. Since I had no one until this post to give me some feedback, I figured I could try to put five years of use into the product by telling the kids to have at it. It’s been about a year, now, and it still looks pretty good. I really don’t like the hard laminate to sink edge, though. It feels almost “sharp” if you know what I mean.Tom

MemberYeah, I know what you mean Tom. One’s kids are the perfect test for being hard on kitchens.
I get these calls all the time about what bowl bit to use with what sink. Obviously, just about all the manufactures have the “use this bit with that bowl” down to a science. It’s the ones that have no regard for what bit to use but oh by the way, how many sinks do you need. When Velepec, who knows every degree of every sink told me “they could not get a straight answer” then I knew their was a problem. So when I called Karran, it was obvious. Unless I was calling to order a 100 sinks, they did not care to help out one way or the other! Let’s see if we can get an answer from someone at Karram.

KeymasterLet me get this straight, you hard seam a solid surface bowl to the bottom of laminate? What supports the bowl? I doesn’t seem like the material would be strong enough.

MemberThe double bowl sinks have the rim deep enough that you sand or rout to thickness of the 3/4 ” substraste and then support the side with strips of wood. The vanity sinks you have to use clips the rim is not made thick enough.

MemberReuben,
Do you do a lot of vanity sinks? I am thinking that if I do a kitchen sink display I should also do a vanity one as well.

MemberDave,
You are probably getting more requests because we (Tech Products) are now distributing them in Florida and we and the Karran guys having been doing a blitz in the Florida market the past few weeks. I send alot of people your way for supplies for solid surface.
If you have any troubles getting a call back or need anything from Karran let me know and I will get in touch with them or try to assist.

MemberShane,
I do not do a lot of vanities in any material. In my area most people go to the cultured marble. I have been trying to work out a way to get more vanity sales any advice would be helpful.

MemberAvoniteguy/Chris. Thanks for sending folks to us. Yes I’ve noticed some of the callers say “Tech sent us”. Again, we’re not in the sink biz so one sink is like another sink to me. Just needed to know the degree of angle on the Karran so I can help the customer. Thanks to jcristina for telling me that a Velepec 30-150 3/8″ radius bowl bit worked for him. I’ve informed Bob at Velepec that this is what fabricators have used.
