James Brown was called (self-billed as well) the Hardest Working Man in Show Business. He certainly ranked right up there, but he was the guy who made proving it a part of his show. He was the consummate showman, and he was soul much like Bill Monroe was Bluegrass. It’s rare to find one clip that shows it all, but I think this comes close. Any other oldsters remember this James Brown?

    Tom:

I think James Brown was great, but so is Eddy Murphy’s imitation of him:

Wasn’t he in on of the Rocky movies? I think that was the first time I ever heard of him.

That was a good clip, Joe.
Have you ever seen John Belushi’s imitation of Joe Cocker? Good stuff.

As a young musiscian, I held James Brown as the epitome of a performer. He was captivating, raw, and tireless. His band, the JB’s, were one of tightest groups of all time and some of it’s members, like Maceo and Bootsy still enjoy a living from being a part of that legendary bunch.

Even though he was no icon as a human being, he is a legend of the stage and studio. Thanks for mentioning him, Tom.

Thanks, Brad, I couldn’t let it go unnoticed. Did you sing any of his hits?

I think if I tried to sing some JB I’d end up in an ICU. That man had some pipes!

I don’t know, Brad, that was a pretty awesome Mustang Sally you did off the cuff in Toronto. If you can do Wilson cold, you could do James warmed up.
