Does anyone know of any problem with doing inlays of Trademarked names? As long as we place the “R” Trademark symbol, would we be okay? Example – Corian (r) or Harley Davidson (r)

    thanks

    Brady,

Welcome to the Forum ! The “R” does represent it is registered, and noone can (or is suppose to) use it without permission from the owner. Logo’s are copied all the time.whether with or without permission. One rarely hears of any problem, unless someone is trying to profit from the use of it.

Maybe someone that does this all the time can provide a more in depth response.

    Brady,

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If you are trying to sell the logos then you will have a problem, not just because the (R) is not there, but because you have to have permission to use another person’s logo to sell.

If you are trying to do a logo with a CNC, forget the r. It is too small in most cases to do anyway. I ends up looking like a black dot.

In the end, I doubt anyone will have a problem if you promote their product.

    Brady,

Andy and KC are correct. We do alot of inlays with alot of different logos.

I’m no lawyer, but I beleive there is a fair-use understanding in play, here. For example, when you got your DuPont certification, there was a clause or two that gave you tacit permission to responsibly represent them in your advertising. You get permission to use the logo, as long as you follow their standard guidelines (ratio of font to trademark, or minimum allowable size of that style, etc.). There will be available, from almost every manufacturer, a variety of logos for advertising.

I think that understanding can be unspoken, as well. If you sell a product, you can promote it. You cannot sell it or its image ever.
