MemberI was talking with a designer and the suggestions of making a sample with common stains on it for his showroom came up. I did a quick and dirty test last night with some common culprits (coffee, cool-aid, grape juice, texas pete, balsamic vinegar, permanent marker, etc)
All but one of the stains came off with water and a light sponge except the marker (which denatured Alc removed). Much to my surprise the Texas Pete is On There!! I have tried ammonia based cleaner, denatured Alc, soapy water to get the stain out and it isn’t going anywhere.
Any suggestions short of a white scotch brite? (Color is Bone (go figure))

MemberTry grape juice, you will get the same stain. Stain…. not exactly. The color particles have embedded in the scratches that are there. Try a little Clorox on the stain, or a little grey scotchbrite. Every grit will cut the material and leave microscopic cuts in the material. These grooves give some substances a place to grab on to, not soak into, as it is not porous. Hot sauce contains a chemical, Capsaicin, that is what makes the Hot Sauce HOT. It’s chemical makeup is such, it can bond to rough surfaces, as skin, or in this case the scratches on the SS. Gee, High School Chemisty fun 101…..
You want to stain something, make a scratch in the Granite sealer and pour grape juice on it…… that’s fun if your designer wants to see stain. Just tell them SS cannot stain, and if it ever sees a discoloration, it can be easily renewed with a little sanding. Never use the word “stain” with SS…. it doesn’t

MemberKC,
Point taken on the definition of stain. However, to a client if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck……..
I tried grape juice (although it was from concentrate) The conversation with the designer was very freindly, he actually used to fabricate on occasion for a yacht refurbishing co., interestin’ stuff. I am putting the peice together to highlight the ease of cleaning.
