I heard somewhere (grain of salt and all) that Home Centers are losing a bit of market precentage. The way the stat was told me, where they used to get about a 60% countertop sale with cabinets, they are now closer to 40%. I might assume we are talking about a specific area of the country, and is over represented, but it still seems like a large drop. Is there anyway to verify this?

I would imagine that the numbers could more than be made up for in growth of the over-all market.

I also wonder what kind of top holds what position in terms of sales.

Is there anyplace to find this out?

I heard the same thing but it was from a quartz company. Bad news travels fast and if people have a bad experience with a company, they won’t go back. But, I think the Home Centers are an easy target for bad news. I know I would never buy something from the Home Centers but the main reason is the 100% deposit. I would never give a contractor 100% upfront.

The most accurate way to find that out would be from the
stores sales associates. They are the ones selling the products and would know
first hand. But it might be a pain to call all of the stores.

I talk with the local stores in my area if my sales are down
to find out what people are buying. The last time I checked they told me their
Corian sales were up because of a free sink and color upgrade promotion they
were having. And that put their prices lower than Hi Macs. I only do Hi Macs
and Formica SS for this particular store. Another time I checked about a year
ago it was due to quartz sales.

I have noticed more people coming in direct for countertop
prices after getting cabinets from the home stores. Maybe people are starting
to realize that they may save money if they shop around.
