I am interested in having my house wired for complete home automation(Audio, Video, Lighting, Security and HVAC). Does anyone on here have history doing this. It will be for new construction.

Ray, I am building a house and it has a cool feature, it’s not automated but very convenient. I have a panel where all the phone lines, cable lines, and cat 5 lines come in to for the whole house. The panel also has room for a modem and a router, from there I can plug and unplug all the cable or phone outlets to suit my needs. For instance, cable tv in whatever room I want, roadrunner high speed internet, dsl, separate phone lines, etc.

My in-laws just had a new house built with a somewhat advanced electrical/audio/video/network wiring plan. The best thing they did was take lots of pictures before the drywall went up. The drywall crews covered up about half of the jacks & it would have been a nightmare trying to figure out where the connections were from the diagrams.

They also put in plenty of rack-space and some extra conduit in closets behind key components – entertainment center, TV in master bedroom, office; and there’s a pretty complete panel that connects it all in a utility/storage room.
