MemberI remember Andy and Mory discussing GPS units awhile back. I would really like to get one, just looking for some first-hand feedback on brands and features.
A memory function would be great as well as an online tracking option to locate the unit when it is in an install vehicle. Would love the ability to store locations from template to install, for those out of the way places.
If anyone has used a particular brand in any application, please share your thoughts.

KeymasterI have a Magellan that we bought a year and a half ago. Valerie loves it for doing bids at customer homes. She enters the first and then it makes it real easy to find the second job when you are on the road.
You can’t track this unit online but there are survices that provide that feature. I think you will have to pay a monthly fee for it. Good idea if you have trucks out all the time.
My GPS is a little on the big side, but it is easy to read. Do a search on GPS reviews because some of the units don’t find the address all that great.

We have changed our cell phones over to the Treo 650. I am in the process of buying the adaptor kit for this phone. I think it is made by TomTom. I will post a link when I find it. I also have the same Magellan as Andy and we still use it. For my personal use I am going to get the adaptor kit for my cell phone.

KeymasterNextel has the GPS and tracking system on each phone. The screen is tiny though and it really isn’t a map but more like directions.

Andy,
We used to have Nextel, but got rid of them. Our service area is too large, and the service is not good enough. If you get 10 miles off of an interstate highway around here, Nextel is terrible.
Not all of us are lucky like you and your 10 mile radius to supply all the work you could ever want…….(I’m jealous)

KeymasterThat is funny you talk about travel distance. We don’t like to travel outside of 25 miles. After that there is a trip charge. We used to go anywhere, but that gets really expensive. We would be paying overtime to the installers just to drive to the job because it would take so long in traffic.
