I posted some pictures in the members section of the photo galley of this site of a laundry room top, L shaped 5 x 8 foot. No substrate, no seam block bulkheads completly sawn out for sink installation. Absolutely no support at all. This was done by Jetta here in oklahoma in a million dollar home. The material was Avonite autum wheat, with a 25.5″ long seam. We did about $55,000 in cabinets in the kitchen, library and master bath but didn’t get this top. I guess you get what you pay for.

This isn’t an isolated instance, every top that I have ever seen them do they do the same way. I’m going to send this one to my regional Avonite rep.

What we need is a hall of shame to post pictures of jobs like this.

Al, I was just on Ebay and saw where Jetta is selling all their sheets at $10.00 sq ft. It seems they have locations all over. Is this the same people you were talking about. Are they manufacturers of SS??

Yeah gods, on ebay for $10.00 a sq ft? Selling to non certified fabricators? If this is true, I’ll drop Avonite like a hot potatoe if it isn’t squashed fast.

I talked to a fireman at the last home and garden show. He approached our distributor for avonite and was turned down for sheet sales, as he should have been, as he is a fireman not a fabricator. The guys seemed nice enough, but was flipping houses on days off. He was buying half sheets at a big discount and patching countertops together, cutting all kind of corners in fabrication. Sure we use seams in our tops, who doesn’t, but we keep them to a minumum by using full sheets. He talked about Mystera, in catoosa oklahoma, selling him seconds that he used in homes. I will allow that if the bad parts are cut out, it could be just as good as number one material, but no warranty is given.

In all, I would prefer that all fabricating solid surface be professional shops, full time, and dedicated to quality.

Jetta used to make their own sheets. They are well know here in Okc. Mainly builders are the only ones that will use them. I have personally talked to consumers and seen their broken or faded tops, which were refused warranty service after only three years. One consumer said the reason he was given for not honoring the warranty on a three year old top was that the year before, Jetta spent 1 million dollars on warranty work in oklahoma.

Jetta started selling avonite and aristech products a couple of years ago. I recently sent the pics of bad work, no seam blocks, substrate, no support under the tops, to our regional avonite rep. Supposedly they were given remedial training to correct the issues, although I have no way of knowing for sure.

Thanks for the heads up on the jetta sales on ebay. I hope it is some of their old stock and not avonite’s or aristech’s products.

KC, it appears that this is old stock they are trying to get rid of. Do we all set back and let the cheapskates burn themselves or do we get involved? I posted a reply on the “corian vs. granite” thread on the discussion forum. It would help if more fabricators with personal experince with Jetta did likewise.

Thank goodness it isn’t Avonites material. You gotta wonder why aristec supports the caliber of company that will knowingly sell defective sheet goods, even to cheapskate homeowners. It is bad for the industry.

I had the conversation about Jetta with Aristech before it happened. They claim Jetta is an OEM. I said there is no Jetta that does their own fabrication, they are purely distributors. In Az the Jetta dealer use to fabricate but has since gotten out of the business. Sad thing is Avonite stuck it to their distributors when they did this, AND they are selling to Jetta for less than to their distributors. They make a few Acrylic that are unique to Jetta but also sell them the top sellers of Polyester. But Aristect has sold material to Formica and others also… as you said $$ speaks .

Wags, the Jetta in Wildwood Fla. does their own fabrication. Unless, I missed what you were saying.

    Wags,

Are we talking about Avonite or Aristech (and how much of a difference is there)?

I am referring to selling the materials to them as OEM.

Aristech IS Avonite…Avonite is the brand name of Aristechs own Solid Surface. OEM means Original Equipment Mfg… Jetta does not fabricate material they distribute to there dealers. The same dealer I was selling as an Avonite Distributor. So, Avonite did an end run and in reality set up a dual distribution network. Which only proves once again how little Top Management of many companies understand what distribution does and how it works.

Al, your right Tony Brooks is a stand up guy.

There used to be a site called jettasucks.com, it still exists but the guy took down the tirade about jetta in florida. Locally, they use contract fabricators, paying around $16.00 per foot for fab and install. Only shop I know of that does work with them is 99% illeagal immigrant, who else can work for those prices?

I’ve talked to three or four guys that can buy from jetta direct, avonite colors of course. Mostly part time guys looking to build their own kitchen. At the last home and garden show, Jetta had a large display of hot tubs, one tiny little countertop and people told me the booth was empty most of the time.

Al… I looked at the colors…. don’t see any Avonite in them. Not sure who they are.

    Here is the link..

They advertise that any product can be picked up here:

Merchandise can be picked up at our various store locations for no additional shipping cost. Our current stores locations are in Houston, Dallas, Denver, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Kansas City, and Wichita. Products delivered outside this radius will be shipped via motor freight. Please email ebay@jettacorp.com for shipping quotations.

Here is the kicker though. No matter who they are or who they buy from, if a manufacturer sponsors this statement, they need to be outed from this industry…

Jetta Corporation is not responsible for fabrication or instillation of this product. You will need to find someone to fabricate & install it for you ($10.00 – $20 per sq ft. depending on where you live.), then you will have beautiful solid surface countertops for a fraction of the market price ($20.00 – $30.00 per sq ft. as opposed to $35 -$55 per sq ft.).

Lets find out who makes these colors and visit them at the show!!!!!!

KC, perhaps I wasn’t clear. These are their old sheets, made with their own process and equipment, the ones that caused them millions of dollars in warranty work and just about put them out of business. They are just trying to get rid of them in any way they can. Such is the integity of this company.
