MemberNeed some opinions on building a 4″ integrated into a bar top. We have done them a few different ways. Wondering how anyone likes doing them different reasons including: relatively inexpensive option for the customer, really cool appearance (we have coved the inside radiI before), and ease of fabrication/assembly.
Also have done them on peninsulas where drawers are present which vastly limits your options, but somebody get a discussion going on how you like to do them if you have done multiples. For the purposes of this discussion, lets eliminate the Applebee’s method of “slap a couple 1/2″ pieces together at a right angle, then apply silicone liberally”
Anxious to hear ideas. We are doing a few more of them, would like to come up with a standard method and possibly show a small piece in our showroom.
Thanks.

KeymasterWe don’t do a lot of bar tops but are you refering to the step down section on the bar tender side? Could you post a picture by any chance?

MemberHey Matt. We have done a few edges like this. Using the CNC to profile the edge.

MemberJon,
That is pretty awesome. We are not looking to do the wood molding in my picture, rather the drink rail on the other side of the bar. Integrating a drop down area, with a spill proof rail. Area where bartenders pour drinks. Your picture is really cool, gives me an idea or two, but not what the subject of my thread was looking for.

Check out the inside edge. This is similar to what I am looking to make. Like I said, I know a couple of methods, but need to settle on one as a standard, minimizing fab labor, but giving the customer something that looks nice.
So…….nobody has ever fabricated one of these into a bar top?? You guys are holding out on me…………

MemberMatt,
Somewhere, waaaaayyyy up in the history section of our attic, I have a bar top, all corian, with a drain rail like you have shown. I looked and couldn’t find it today.
Pretty simple to make if you don’t need to cove it to the deck. A half inch drop is okay, I presume?

MemberMatt,
Check out this link: http://www.amanatool.com/bits-fv/57118.html. We use the Amana 57148 shown at the bottom of the page. It does not leave too much of a no-drip edge, but serves the purpose. Note – we don’t build up the edge in the fashion shown in the picture on Amana’s site. The way we do this edge, the no-drip part is routed on the CNC before the other edge build-ups are applied.
Have a nice evening,
Seth
