KeymasterWhat size bit do you use for drainboards? I have seen them with a skinny core box bit and also a wide bit up to 1″. Just curious what you all used.

MemberAndy,
I use a 5/8″ dia. with rounded corners. I like to cut 1/16 deep on the shallow end and 3/16″ deep nwhere it enters the bowl. I do not add reinforcing under the drain board and have not had any problems.

MemberAndy,
We use this type of bit and mostly use the 1/2″ dia. The bits shown are 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, & 1″. We will cut ours from 0″ to 1/4″ in depth.

MemberWe use a 3/4″ as a standard, but have done 1/2″ and 1″
Want a really cool effect?? Do a 1/4″ stripe inlay in the drainboard. Looks sharp. Let me see if I have a picture….

MemberMatt, I’ve seen something like that done and you’re right, it is very cool! Hope you have some pics to post.

Don’t leave me hangin, I need to see a picture of this. I get a lot of comments about drainboards about things might tip over if the groove is too wide. The 1/4″ bit my be the answer.

MemberDoes it need to be that wide, 1/4″? Would the water bead up and block the flow or something?

KeymasterMatt,
Were you able to find a picture of that Drainboard with the 1/4″ bit? Just curious

Not trying to spam, here is a deep drainboard done in 3cm, pretty wide bit.

KeymasterGordon,
Do you happen to know what size bit that is?

MemberI believe the bit that was used on the EOS pic is a 3/4 cut with an 1/8″ radius in the corners. Dave has one in the Velepec catalog.
