MemberIt is nice to read an article with something positive about Solid Surface, but this comment was a little off base ”Solid color laminate plastics offer fewer advantages, yet cost virtually the same as solid surface materials.” Not sure what he pays for his laminate but I either charge way too little for my laminate or way too much for my Solid Surface.

(from the article)Well, since laminate is predominantly paper, then phenolic resin, then plastic melamine, I am sure he is not talking about laminate.
I am sure.

MemberSome materials are primarily acrylic while others
are a blend of acrylic and polyester plastics. Those solid surface
materials which have a high content of acrylic plastic seem to have
higher performance standards.I take back some of my earlier snark.
This is pretty well stated.November 16, 2006 at 6:59 pm #9765Tom M
MemberExcessive, concentrated heat can damage the
surfaces. However, this problem is frequently overcome with the use of
decorative trivets made from the scrap material from the sink and
cooktop cutouts. This very well put, I think.
Agree with you guys on the pricing thing.

Probably referring to Formica’s “Solid Core”, Wilsonart’s “Soli Core (?)”, Pionite’s “Mel Core(?)”, or even “Nuvell”…showing my age here.

MemberWayno,
Good call. I think you’re right. But color core is not around much, melcor is gone nuvell is called something else and is not marketted as countertop material, solicore is out as well, I think. He also would still be wrong if he was refering to color through laminates in this passage:The vast majority of plastic countertops are made from thin sheets of plastic laminated to wood or wood by-product substrates.
