Dave, remind me to send you a picture of an old Stanley prototype we have from the early 60’s. My Dad knew one of the tool designers at Stanley and you wouldn’t believe some of the stuff around the shop.
The trigger was spring loaded for stress, and the router was originally designed to be mounted to a machine.
It’s about three times the size of modern 3.5 HP routers, but was considered a three horse itself.
Torque counted for something in those days.

MemberI’d be interested in seeing that Tom. I’ll be bringing several of my vintage tools to the show for display. Wait till you see the Porter-Cable rust chipper I have. This baby was government issued, is pristine and I’m going to put a sign on it that says it’s the new way for busting down a solid surface seam !
