MemberI went through the class out at Henderson, nvwhile back at the Issfa building. Do I need to tell Meganite that. I saw them at the show and they said if I would go to the class then I could use there material. I have been to the class, and would like to buy there material. I called the corian distribtur , got there number at Lowes, but they said thay are not takin any new people to sell their material. I am a good hands on person, just trying to get into the business, and make good counterttops for good people. I will appreciate any help.

MemberJames, Dupont restricts their markets in particular area as to not cause saturation, whatever. Any of the other manufacturer’s will accept the ISSFA training, you can either give them a copy of completion certificate or have them call ISSFA to confirm. Some of the polyester manu’s may require you to take one of their classes just because of the different fabrication procedures required for poly’s.

MemberHi James,
In order to limit number of fabricators and price wars most companies will limit the amount of fabricators they accept. Corian being the hardest. Meganite should not have much of an issue. Let them know that you received the training, They may require that you sit in their class for a day or read their fab manual and sign that you understand the stuff and will follow the fabrication techniques. Then they most likely want references, credit etc…
Good luck, If you have any questions feel free to ask

MemberJames,
Good for you. I’m sure you got the basics to help you through getting started. This site is all about fabrication, new or old, it does not matter. Please fell free to ask any question, and always know this site will always help you.
Not sure where you are at, but I would call the meganite rep in your area, tell them you went through the ISSFA class. Should not be a problem with you buying material. Don’t forget, any one of us is only a phone call or web click away, Good Luck!!

MemberThank you Norm Walter. I already got me some of those clamps. I really wanted to buy Corian, that is what I hear what most ladies want, but they told me in class it wastoo high in price and I could do better with some other brand. Is the polyester the Avonite brand you speak about. I heard it was different but don’t know why. I appreciate your help. Thank you kindly….James

KeymasterYo James,
The ITEC class will not guarantee that you will be able to buy the materail. BUT, Bill Wolle is a great instructor and you have been taught well. Start with the other brands of solid surface first. Don’t worry about being able to sell Corian, Mory makes billions
and isn’t an authorized Corian man.Concentrate on building relationships with good distributors. Try the folks that sponsor the site, Affinity, Avonite and Formica. Sure that is a plug, but these companies our support. At least give them a call and see what they can do for you.
Don’t focus on the material you can’t get, focus on the material and relationships that will help grow your business.
Got any guestions, please post here or give me a call.

MemberJames, check with the distributors that are nearby you first, it may be hard to find some of them. Alot of them are distributors for other products such as cabinets, plywood, and even laminate. I use Staron and LG Hi-Macs simply because the distributors are two blocks away from my shop.

MemberJames,
Both Andy and Norm are correct try and work with distibutoer that will help you. A good one will not only supply you with sheets, but help give your name out for some futre work etc. Also do not worry so much about a hving to sell Corion because that is what the ladys want. What you will fing out is that is the name they associate with solid surface and they do not even no what other brands are. . Something I do if people want Corion is I tell them I do not have that brand, but I have Avonite, Formica Solid Surface, Affinity and Wilson Art. They normally look at you with a puzzled look and then I say it is like Coke and Pepsi they are still soda pop just different taste and made just a little different but still if you want a pop either works.Just remember you just need to educate them about the product you use all preform pretty much the same for the consumer, it just us fab guys that need to worry about it technical differences for fab and warranty issues.
Godd to hace you the network and good luck.

MemberJames this is what I tell a customer that wants Corian.
“Corian is actually solid surface which was invented by Dupont. Dupont’s patent ran out and 40 other companys started making solid surface, and Corian is more expensive because of the marketing they do, which is why you are familiar with the name.”
I’ll sell Corian, but I can’t even get the rep at Parksite to return my calls, I gave up.

MemberI have oly been dealing with Parksiet since – May, is it Jon?- and must say that even upper management has been good to reach. It may be because my salesman was with the earlier two (no, three!) distributors, and know us well. While I don’t know any of them well, if you guys want, I can see if I can get a message through to people who need to be told.RobP, are you in New England?

MemberTom, where else in life do you have to jump through hoops to buy a company’s product? I am fairly confident it should be the other way around.
