How is everyone doing banjo tops in bathrooms, you know the ones that have the narrow piece over the toilet. I am thinking a large cleat attached to the wall, and a piece of full substrate attached to the cleat, then the top siliconed to that. I still don’t like the idea of no support on the outside.

I use a full piece under the free area and cleats on the walls. Havent had any problems as of yet. ONly thingis is glue my substrate on the top in the shop and use silicone to adhere to the cleats. I just dont like to screw the wood to the cleat then cover it with the top just in case it needs to come out easier.

    Norm,
Is there going to be a field joint for easier plubing service? Or is it a low-boy toilet?
Also, will it terminate at a wall on the toilet end?

We haven’t done a banjo top in a couple of years. It seems
as though people don’t like them much anymore around here.

    Norm,

We used to do quite a bit of them, and we used steel “L” brackets. A metal shop makes them 4″ by 7″ by 2″ wide. The installers would mount the bracket with the 4″ side going up. We would notch the sheet rock and screw the bracket directly into the stud. Doing it this way the arm of the top had support almost all the way to the front and the bracket would be hidden. Sounds like a lot but only took a minute or two to do and the bracket only cost around fifty cents.

Shane, the reason I am duplicating the banjo she has now, is that she Faux painted the bathroom and Norm don’t do Faux.
