It doesn’t pain me to admit that we have something in common, but it does pain me to admit that this is it.

MemberKelsey, then you would be in the vast minority on this one. But, to each their own.
BTW, I hear Paula Abdul is fond of playing with glue guns.

MemberDave, I really enjoy Idol, I just think the editing of these two shows have the Jerry Springer theatrics. It really bothered me that Simon humiliated some because of their physical features and said things like “you look like a…” .
Thank heavens Paula and Randy knows the meaning of respect.

MemberI agree Kelsey. I was uncomfortable when he did that. That is low of him. We all can’t be as pretty as Simon.

MemberI watch Idol. I enjoy the show more when they get to LA. When Fox actually lets us see the real talent. I feel the same way as Kelsey too much of a freak show at the moment. Why do we take so much delight in seeing someone’s misfortune?

MemberI avoid this show at all costs.
Jon, the freak show part is what brings the audience in. Says a bit more about us than the judges, if you ask me.Tom

MemberYep, like driving by a car wreck if you will. I just can’t wait till Paula goes on a binge and starts poluting her words.

My 5 year old has a Carrie Underwood calendar on the wall. He blushes everytime he walks by.

Tom:I am unapologetic in admitting I watch this show.I understand that there are things I don’t do well or not well enough to do in public. I’m a fair cook but I can’t sew. Maybe a button. It’s the contestants complete and total ignorance of how bad they really are that makes the show. Of course your mother told you that you can sing, that’s a mother’s job to encourage her kids. I’ll bet if I baked my mom a cake she’d say it was the best she’s ever tasted. But woe to those who don’t find out the truth about their talents before Simon tells them. I love the look of total shock and denial when they get the truth, the performances are hilarious in themselves. This is what happens when you live your life with no introspection whatsoever.JoeJanuary 18, 2007 at 3:39 pm #13174Tom M
MemberJoe,
Hey, I’m sure that these contestants know full-well what they are getting themselves into here. If they want to get laughed at, more power to ’em. So long as they don’t whine when it happens. Of course they could get laughed at for whining as well, I suppose. This is the same as a woman wearing a bikini getting upset that people are staring.
Seriously, guys, enjoy the show.
I don’t watch much TV anymore anyway. Smallville is a guilty pleasure, and the usual History/ Discovery/ Military channels keep me there more than I’d like.
