The kitchen is evolving; No longer is it viewed as a place solely to prepare and cook food. Instead it has transformed into a space that can be truly utilized for living & entertaining friends and family.

In essence, out of all the rooms in the house, the kitchen is often the family hangout. Parents are cooking or checking emails, the TV is on, and the kids are doing their homework — all at the same time, all in the same room.

The next generation kitchen will be a place not only for cooking, but for social and everyday interaction. Kitchen design trends now concentrate on the kitchen as the ‘hub‘ of the household, incorporating the functional aspects of a kitchen with the ability to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

No matter how large or small your home is, when having a get together, folks will congergate in the kitchen. We made our space to suit such a need as we entertain quite a bit. However, we have as yet to move a love seat in to the space. I’d attempt it now but I may just wake up FEDSAWFRAN.

This is a typical kitchen in Nova Scotia, especially kitchens in rural areas. Large kitchens with plenty of space to accomodate various activities. Typically when we have a gathering there are as many people or more in the kitchen than the living or dining areas. We have a rocking chair available in ours as do many others in the area.

Open concept seems to be the thing here now with the kitchen, living room and dining area all one with large islands and bar tops. We just got a kitchen top job with two large islands requiring 180 sq. ft. of material.

In Europe they like thier kitchen so much that they take it with them when they move. Often times they are considered furniture and made to be taken apart and enjoyed by the family at thier next home.
